Script for River Rouge:
Group 2

Calm

M: a calm and relaxing place

Kris falls

Olivia H: This is awesome

(Theme music)dun du du dun dun a dun dun

J: The river rouge, a great place for a field trip (must be enthusiastic)

A: An adventurous journey through... Wait, huh, a filthy river!?

T: Why a FILTHY river?

O: It's our job to keep it healthy, but we aren't doing our best.

M: The river rouge is OUR water shed!

J: And we are Michigan citizens.

T: And therefore we can do anything.

O: And that means we can clean the river, and keep it healthy!

A: And plus it's FUN! And knowing you helped the River should make you happy.

J: Let's talk about the stations you can do, they're really fun!

M: Well, there's chemicals, where you get to test the water for dissolved oxygen, Ph, phosphate, nitrate, fecal coliform, temperature and turbidity.

T: Those are some big words, what other stations are there?

J: Physical, you get to go in the water and test the water for speed, depth, width, temperature and shape.

O: Are there any other stations? How many are there in all?

T: There are 3 different stations, and they are all really cool!

A: well, the final station is benthics. It may sound weird, but in this station, you test for bugs!

O: how?

A: well, you take a net and collect bugs and other organisms. Then you sort through them.

T: how does this help the River?

M: We sort the organisms by if they're tolerant to pollution, who are not as tolerant to pollution but not to bad, and ones that can't stand pollution.

J: And if the strong ones start to die off we know that the River is not healthy, and the medium tolerance organisms, and the no tolerance organisms, it depends on what's dying off.

O: Ok! Let's look at some pictures.

A: This is one of people at the chemical station.

T: this is one of people at the physical station

M: And last the benthics station.

All: We hope your school chooses the River rouge as their next field trip!

Pen Pal letter
Hi Tina,
It is so nice to meet you! I have always wanted to have a pen pal from across the world. And now you have helped make me achieve that goal. I am so happy we are pen pals and I hope we can sometime meet in person.

I like swimming and running. I am on a swim team called BBD or Birmingham Blue Dolphins. Are you on any teams? My favorite  color is pink. I also LOVE steak and ribs. Do you have any favorite foods?

When I grow up I want to be a Olympic swimmer, a doctor, or the president. What do you want to be when you grow up?

Facts about jewelry:
One plastic card might not seem like much but one analysis found that little card with PVC translates into a carbon footprint of 21 g or the amount of gasketed to drive you home or 150 feet. Did you know according to the national retail Federation the predictedspending on the cards this year is $2,000,000,000.79. And nearly 60% of the respondents to their October 2012 gift card pool cleaned it actually like to receive the cards this year. Into thousand six the staggering 80 billion dollars worth of gift cards were sold in the US where the piece of plastic accompanying nearly every purchase.
You could help by trying to stop the flow of gift cards and not using as much. You could also help with the flow of gift cards streaming into landfills by help supporting ZINC jewelry we make jewelry out of the used his card and very sustainable because we are saving gift card by not throwing them out you are reusing them into something beautiful. ZINC is working with project cope to raise money to set up a penpal system it with our friends in Zambia. We hope to set up a kind of community from across the globe because we really understand each other and we feel empathy towards each other I think that really helps when you're helping people across the world. 6190 gift cards at 8.5 cm each is equal to 5.15 km every laid them lengthwise next to each other. That's a lot of gift cards! Recently several companies had made tried to reduce PVC consumption. And July 2007 Target began using bio pasta gift cards made with the corn-based substance called Mirel made by Metabolix. This way they make all their stores more sustainable and they're not wasting as much grief resources. Come check  out Zynga jewelry located at Birmingham Covington School.we are located in Bloomfield Hills Michigan and we are in the Birmingham school district. "The world would be a better place if" is a question that pops into your head atleast once of twice in your life. It is not one that you will constantly walk around asking people but one that is more one that you will ask yourself. When I get confronted with a question like that it is one that I will sometimes have a hard time answering. But, I do have a answer for it now. Would you like to hear it?

It all started a few days ago. It was a Thursday and I was sitting in sixth period (Social Studies) well my teacher was going on and on about this "Reflections Program." Now at first when I heard about this program I thought Wow that sounds so cool! I totally have to try that! But then I remembered that I was in the sixth grade with loads of homework waiting to be completed on my desk at home. There was no way I would be able to get it done in time. But then my teacher said these 3 words. This. Is. Required. Suddenly I was staring up at him with my jaw hanging open and my eyes bulging out words. Like I was some sort of wide eyed, open mouth bug.

About 10 minutes later the bell rang letting off a short " Bing, bing, bing" that could be heard through the entire school. I walked over to my friend who was packing her stuff up carefully placing her things in a pyramid shape so it would be easier to carry.
"So what are you going to do for the reflections project?" She asked me picking up her stuff as she walked towards the door. I gave her a half hearted shrug and looked away. I was still worried that I would not have enough time to do the project.
"So?" She asked again I could tell by the seriousness in her voice that she wanted an answer.
" I don't know but I will figure it out" I replied. I typed in the number to open locker and shoved by books into the bottom letting them fall into the locker in a un orderly fasion. I closed my locker with a click and walked away.

Now, if you are reading this right now you are probably thinking, "so why isn't this girl answering the question?" Well I am getting to that. But now let's skip up a little bit and set the seen for a Sunday afternoon. In my bedroom.

I was lying on my bed reading a book called Wonder one Sunday afternoon when a thought suddenly popped into my head "reflections program."

Two Days!!!
We have two days until it is time for spring break to start! I am super excited because I am going on a cruise with my moms best friend family. They are super nice and I can't wait to see them. The only bad thing is that Friday morning we are leaving a 7:00 in the morning to drive 17 hours to Birmingham, Alabama. Which is good and bad at the same time.

This is a picture of our bus and what it did to the lady's car:

Extra Credit: Presidents Selma speech

This is the answer to the extra credit question you posted today in class.

Q: Explain what impressed you most about the speech and why.

A: What impressed me most about the speech is how President Obama was not afraid to share the truth that everyone else was to scared to admit to. People have known in there minds that America needs to "Shake up the status quote" but no one was brave enough to say it out loud but him. Therefore "shaking up the status quote."

The Scorch Trails: book review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book is ok, but compared to the other maze runner adventures it does not contain that much action. But, other then that, it has a good ending and a even better beginning. So yes, I would recommend this book but to whoever is going to read it , to understand you should read the first book in the series first.

The final swim
"I scared" I muttered under my breath the water was glistening all around me as I slipped into the Birmingham YMCA pool. I was about to swim a 150 freestyle for time. And the worst part was I was racing against one of my best friends.
"All right girls, take your marks, GO!!"
I pushed off the wall. The water was rushing past me. Flowing fast past my ears so I almost felt def. I looked to my side to see my competeter rushing along side me, we were neck in neck. I pushed of the wall for the first flip turn and sprinted my 2nd length. By the last 50 I could tell I was falling behind

Literary Essay: Grade 6
Writing Unit 2
Note: this draft includes comments for my multi media video.

“There’s a lot of unnecessary meanness that happens while you’re trying to sort out who you want to be,” Is a quote from RJ Palacio. This quote reflects a book she has written called Wonder, (Pic of the cover of Wonder) a novel written by RJ Palacio. (Pic of the author) It is a story of a 5th grade boy just like any other boy,( # 5) but there is one thing about this boy that is different. Auggie has a facial difference, ( pic of eye) which makes him a lot different from the other kids in the school. ( Laughing kids) In Wonder Auggie must learn how he can change. He must discover his true passion, and find true friends. In order to get through 5th grade he must find himself, and discover who he really is. (6) (Hearts)

Throughout the story Auggie ( Pic of eye) starts to learn more about himself and what he is about. He learns different things about himself that he never knew. For example at the end of the book when Auggie is talking to the Middle School Director Mr.Tushman he notices a picture he drew of himself at the beginning of the year. It was his self portrait as a duck. ( Duck) The author writes "Is it safe to assume that is was because of the...um, the duckling that turns into a swan?"(swan)  Auggie responds to Mr. Tushman’s comment with "No, I just think I look like a duck." (Duck) He realizes that maybe Mr. Tushman is right. Maybe when he grows he will be the swan, he will be normal. (8) ( thumbs up)

Also, in the story Auggie and his friends go on a trip to 5th grade camp. ( cabin)  At camp, one of the nights he spends there is movie night. ( fIlm projecter) Towards the end of the night Auggie and his friend Jack Will go into the woods to go to the bathroom (toilet) when they run into some 7th graders. The 7th graders start making fun of Auggie when suddenly Henry, Miles, and Amos all show up out of nowhere. These boys start to defend Auggie.(Fist)  They start a fight and then in a panic the boys run away with Auggie at their side. The author then writes "Amos looked at me and nodded "It was cool how you stood your ground, little dude" he said high-fiving me." ( High Five) This shows how like Auggie did at the end of the book the boys change. They are nicer to Auggie, and they feel more comfortable around him. (8) ( check mark)

By the end of the story there is a example of changes in Auggie’s dad, and family. ( family picture)  When Auggie and his dad are sitting in the car waiting for Auggie's graduation ( graduation hat) ceremony to start, Auggie's dad becomes more open and expressive towards Auggie. Auggie and his dad talk about how his dad does not want Auggie to cover up his face and how he (person with head down) loves seeing it. Auggie sees a change in his dad and it makes him change even more. At this part in the book the author writes ""Auggie, I couldn't stand seeing you wear that thing cover your face anymore," he said ( dad talking to kid) clumsy....." Auggie realizes that even though he does not like his face, other people do. And there is no point in hiding from the world if the world does not hide from you back. (7) ( person hiding)

In conclusion, Wonder by R.J Palacio is a book the represents finding yourself and discovering who you really are. ( light bulb) We see this through his friends, (friends)family, (family) and teachers. (Teachers) When I first started school I had no idea what reading even was! ( book) But, when I learned how to read I got really good at it and used that to read Wonder. ( book cover)  (Which, I might say was one of the best decisions I have ever made.)But, through reading Wonder I learned that always staying the same, and never trying something new is like being locked in a box for your entire life. ( box) It is like hiding yourself in a lifelong game of hide and seek.(people playing hide and seek)  It is impossible. Auggie, discovers what he is really about, so why can’t we? “Rise above the storm ( storm)and you will find the sunshine( sunshine) ” is a quote from Mario Fernandez. It shows how you should not as Fernandez says stay under the storm or stay the same. You should change, try new things and “find the sunshine.”

(Pic of the author) It is a story of a 5th grade boy just like any other boy, but there is one thing about this boy that is different. Auggie has a facial difference, which makes him a lot different from the other kids in the school. In Wonder Auggie must learn how he can change. He must discover his true passion, and find true friends. In order to get through 5th grade he must find himself, and discover who he really is. (6)

Throughout the story Auggie starts to learn more about himself and what he is about. He learns different things about himself that he never knew. For example at the end of the book when Auggie is talking to the Middle School Director Mr.Tushman he notices a picture he drew of himself at the beginning of the year. It was his self portrait as a duck. The author writes "Is it safe to assume that is was because of the...um, the duckling that turns into a swan?" Auggie responds to Mr. Tushman’s comment with "No, I just think I look like a duck." He realizes that maybe Mr. Tushman is right. Maybe when he grows p he will be the swan, he will be normal. (8)

Also, in the story Auggie and his friends go on a trip to 5th grade camp. At camp, one of the nights he spends there is movie night. Towards the end of the night Auggie and his friend Jack Will go into the woods to go to the bathroom when they run into some 7th graders. The 7th graders start making fun of Auggie when suddenly Henry, Miles, and Amos all show up out of nowhere. These boys start to defend Auggie. They start a fight and then in a panic the boys run away with Auggie at their side. The author then writes "Amos looked at me and nodded "It was cool how you stood your ground, little dude" he said high-fiving me." This shows how like Auggie did at the end of the book the boys change. They are nicer to Auggie, and they feel more comfortable around him. (8)

By the end of the story there is a example of changes in Auggie’s dad, and family. When Auggie and his dad are sitting in the car waiting for Auggie's graduation ceremony to start, Auggie's dad becomes more open and expressive towards Auggie. Auggie and his dad talk about how his dad does not want Auggie to cover up his face and how he loves seeing it. Auggie sees a change in his dad and it makes him change even more. At this part in the book the author writes ""Auggie, I couldn't stand seeing you wear that thing cover your face anymore," he said clumsy....." Auggie realizes that even though he does not like his face, other people do. And there is no point in hiding from the world if the world does not hide from you back. (7)

In conclusion, Wonder by R.J Palacio is a book the represents finding yourself and discovering who you really are. We see this through his friends, family, and teachers. Why were the Indus and Ganges river valleys ideal location for early settlement?
Support you answer by providing details on these two points:

  • how the Indus and the Ganges rivers affected the land nearby
  • why two or more other physical features of India were unsuitable for settlement.
The Indus and Ganges rivers were good for settling because they had rich soil around them. They were good for travel and trade, and they were a good source for food and water. People would use the land around the rivers for farming because the soil was rich, and good for crops. People would build boats such as canoes and travel on the rivers to other villages, to trade or just for fun. And of course the water was mostly clean and it attracted animals that the could eat. The Thar Desert and Himalya mountains on the other hand were not ideal places to settle. There was barely any water in the desert and in the mountains the soil was rocky, dry and bad for farming.

Poem:
My Room:
The Fantasy
When you walk into my room,
You see it glistens like a spoon
There's not a thing on the floor
Except for the door oh how
I wish that was true.

The Reality
There is stuff scattered all over the floor
My beds un made
It looks like there was a war.

Sick
My entire family is sick. My mom has the flu, my dad has that to, Anna has a war ache and Samantha has a cold. I am the only one who does not have any type of sickness. I kind of hope that I get sick and I don't have to come to school. But, being sick is soooooooo annoying. All you do is just lay around all day and watch tv.

Poem:
Valentines Day
Hearts, Candy, chocolate, galore,
fun color confetti covered
all over the floor.
Hugs and kisses
 are showing all around
Valentine's Day comes year round.
Think of something sweet
something to hold really tight
a hug from that special someone
that's just out of sight

Literary Essay: 6th Grade
Unit 2

Kindness, confidence, and trust are three traits that you might here the most often. Occasionally you might add in bravery or kindness, but how often do you hear fearlessness? “The Mark of the Dragonfly” written by Jaleigh Johnson reflects all these traits but mostly demonstrates the power of fearlessness. This is the story of a young girl named Piper. She is a scrapper on her planet, which on earth is equal to a begger. But, one day when a girl shows up in her house with the “mark of the dragonfly” a legendary mark only given to the people closest to the king printed on her arm, Piper must use this trait to decide if she should help this helpless girl or leave her to rot on the streets. Fearlessness is a word you may not hear every day, but in mark of the dragonfly fearlessness is the only way to survive.

Early in the story, Piper (the main character,) sees a little girl struggling and helpless in the reck of a Caravan. She takes pity on the girl and helps the little girl into her shack. Unsure of what is going on Piper goes back to the reck to investigate.  When she discovers nothing there she goes back to the house to find the girl wide awake. She discovers the girls name is Anna and that she has completely torn apart Pipers house. Piper has to explain to the girl that she is nice, and that takes fearlessness.

AHW 2/9/15

Prompt:
Two objects sit before you: a golden hammer and a cup of what seems to be water. A note on the wall says: “Go ahead, make your choice. The outcome will decide whether you’re ready or not.” Ready for what? What is this place? Why these objects? Which will you choose?

Story:
This is probably a test. To see if I will make the logical or greedy decision. Of course knowing that greed is a bad thing I would choose the cup.Though again now knowing what horrors might lay ahead I might choose the hammer. So, in the end I would choose the hammer for self defense. The place that I am in, well, I would picture it to be a room with mirrors all around, much like the movie divergent.

Movie Review
Into the Woods ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Into the woods is a very new movie. It is based upon a brodway production, the consists of the same theme and characters. It is about the a young baker and his wife must travel "into the woods" in order to find various objects that can be used to let them have a child. Of course it is not easy. They must find "a cow a white as milk, hair as yellow as corn, a cape as red as blood, and a slipper as peur as gold" They run into many challenges along the way but in the end they reach there goal. The only thing that should be changed is the fact that when you think the movie is over it just keeps going on and on. But in the end this is a fun filled musical for the whole family to enjoy. Go see Into the Woods at your local theater today!
