Literary Essay: Grade 6
Writing Unit 2
Note: this draft includes comments for my multi media video.

“There’s a lot of unnecessary meanness that happens while you’re trying to sort out who you want to be,” Is a quote from RJ Palacio. This quote reflects a book she has written called Wonder, (Pic of the cover of Wonder) a novel written by RJ Palacio. (Pic of the author) It is a story of a 5th grade boy just like any other boy,( # 5) but there is one thing about this boy that is different. Auggie has a facial difference, ( pic of eye) which makes him a lot different from the other kids in the school. ( Laughing kids) In Wonder Auggie must learn how he can change. He must discover his true passion, and find true friends. In order to get through 5th grade he must find himself, and discover who he really is. (6) (Hearts)

Throughout the story Auggie ( Pic of eye) starts to learn more about himself and what he is about. He learns different things about himself that he never knew. For example at the end of the book when Auggie is talking to the Middle School Director Mr.Tushman he notices a picture he drew of himself at the beginning of the year. It was his self portrait as a duck. ( Duck) The author writes "Is it safe to assume that is was because of the...um, the duckling that turns into a swan?"(swan)  Auggie responds to Mr. Tushman’s comment with "No, I just think I look like a duck." (Duck) He realizes that maybe Mr. Tushman is right. Maybe when he grows he will be the swan, he will be normal. (8) ( thumbs up)

Also, in the story Auggie and his friends go on a trip to 5th grade camp. ( cabin)  At camp, one of the nights he spends there is movie night. ( fIlm projecter) Towards the end of the night Auggie and his friend Jack Will go into the woods to go to the bathroom (toilet) when they run into some 7th graders. The 7th graders start making fun of Auggie when suddenly Henry, Miles, and Amos all show up out of nowhere. These boys start to defend Auggie.(Fist)  They start a fight and then in a panic the boys run away with Auggie at their side. The author then writes "Amos looked at me and nodded "It was cool how you stood your ground, little dude" he said high-fiving me." ( High Five) This shows how like Auggie did at the end of the book the boys change. They are nicer to Auggie, and they feel more comfortable around him. (8) ( check mark)

By the end of the story there is a example of changes in Auggie’s dad, and family. ( family picture)  When Auggie and his dad are sitting in the car waiting for Auggie's graduation ( graduation hat) ceremony to start, Auggie's dad becomes more open and expressive towards Auggie. Auggie and his dad talk about how his dad does not want Auggie to cover up his face and how he (person with head down) loves seeing it. Auggie sees a change in his dad and it makes him change even more. At this part in the book the author writes ""Auggie, I couldn't stand seeing you wear that thing cover your face anymore," he said ( dad talking to kid) clumsy....." Auggie realizes that even though he does not like his face, other people do. And there is no point in hiding from the world if the world does not hide from you back. (7) ( person hiding)

In conclusion, Wonder by R.J Palacio is a book the represents finding yourself and discovering who you really are. ( light bulb) We see this through his friends, (friends)family, (family) and teachers. (Teachers) When I first started school I had no idea what reading even was! ( book) But, when I learned how to read I got really good at it and used that to read Wonder. ( book cover)  (Which, I might say was one of the best decisions I have ever made.)But, through reading Wonder I learned that always staying the same, and never trying something new is like being locked in a box for your entire life. ( box) It is like hiding yourself in a lifelong game of hide and seek.(people playing hide and seek)  It is impossible. Auggie, discovers what he is really about, so why can’t we? “Rise above the storm ( storm)and you will find the sunshine( sunshine) ” is a quote from Mario Fernandez. It shows how you should not as Fernandez says stay under the storm or stay the same. You should change, try new things and “find the sunshine.”

Why were the Indus and Ganges river valleys ideal location for early settlement?
Support you answer by providing details on these two points:

  • how the Indus and the Ganges rivers affected the land nearby
  • why two or more other physical features of India were unsuitable for settlement.
The Indus and Ganges rivers were good for settling because they had rich soil around them. They were good for travel and trade, and they were a good source for food and water. People would use the land around the rivers for farming because the soil was rich, and good for crops. People would build boats such as canoes and travel on the rivers to other villages, to trade or just for fun. And of course the water was mostly clean and it attracted animals that the could eat. The Thar Desert and Himalya mountains on the other hand were not ideal places to settle. There was barely any water in the desert and in the mountains the soil was rocky, dry and bad for farming.

Poem:
My Room:
The Fantasy
When you walk into my room,
You see it glistens like a spoon
There's not a thing on the floor
Except for the door oh how
I wish that was true.

The Reality
There is stuff scattered all over the floor
My beds un made
It looks like there was a war.

Sick
My entire family is sick. My mom has the flu, my dad has that to, Anna has a war ache and Samantha has a cold. I am the only one who does not have any type of sickness. I kind of hope that I get sick and I don't have to come to school. But, being sick is soooooooo annoying. All you do is just lay around all day and watch tv.

Valentines Day
Hearts, Candy, chocolate, galore,
fun color confetti covered
all over the floor.
Hugs and kisses

Valentine's Day comes year round.
Think of something sweet
something to hold really tight
a hug from that special someone
that's just out of sight

Literary Essay: 6th Grade
Unit 2

Kindness, confidence, and trust are three traits that you might here the most often. Occasionally you might add in bravery or kindness, but how often do you hear fearlessness? “The Mark of the Dragonfly” written by Jaleigh Johnson reflects all these traits but mostly demonstrates the power of fearlessness. This is the story of a young girl named Piper. She is a scrapper on her planet, which on earth is equal to a begger. But, one day when a girl shows up in her house with the “mark of the dragonfly” a legendary mark only given to the people closest to the king printed on her arm, Piper must use this trait to decide if she should help this helpless girl or leave her to rot on the streets. Fearlessness is a word you may not hear every day, but in mark of the dragonfly fearlessness is the only way to survive.

Early in the story, Piper (the main character,) sees a little girl struggling and helpless in the reck of a Caravan. She takes pity on the girl and helps the little girl into her shack. Unsure of what is going on Piper goes back to the reck to investigate.  When she discovers nothing there she goes back to the house to find the girl wide awake. She discovers the girls name is Anna and that she has completely torn apart Pipers house. Piper has to explain to the girl that she is nice, and that takes fearlessness.

Prompt:
Two objects sit before you: a golden hammer and a cup of what seems to be water. A note on the wall says: “Go ahead, make your choice. The outcome will decide whether you’re ready or not.” Ready for what? What is this place? Why these objects? Which will you choose?

Story:
This is probably a test. To see if I will make the logical or greedy decision. Of course knowing that greed is a bad thing I would choose the cup.Though again now knowing what horrors might lay ahead I might choose the hammer. So, in the end I would choose the hammer for self defense. The place that I am in, well, I would picture it to be a room with mirrors all around, much like the movie divergent.

Movie Review
Into the Woods ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Into the woods is a very new movie. It is based upon a brodway production, the consists of the same theme and characters. It is about the a young baker and his wife must travel "into the woods" in order to find various objects that can be used to let them have a child. Of course it is not easy. They must find "a cow a white as milk, hair as yellow as corn, a cape as red as blood, and a slipper as peur as gold" They run into many challenges along the way but in the end they reach there goal. The only thing that should be changed is the fact that when you think the movie is over it just keeps going on and on. But in the end this is a fun filled musical for the whole family to enjoy. Go see Into the Woods at your local theater today!

I know that most of you have heard about the passing away of Mrs. Fitz. And let me just say that even though I didn't know her that well this is very sad for everyone. She was a great teacher and she was a wife and a mother to two girls. She died after a two year long battle from Breast Cancer. So, everyone don't forget to wear pink tomorrow. But, I know she will rest in peace. <3 Mrs Fitz
